It also shines a light – for the first time on film – on a 1950s organisation ”The Stars Campaign For Inter-racial Friendship” which was founded by a group of famous British Jazz musicians and entertainers\, in the wake of the 1958 Notting Hill riots and provided venues in West London for black and white youth to socialise together. The role played by Punk Rock\, in uniting young people in 1970s sectarian Belfast\, is also featured. \nIn addition to historical elements\, ORS tracks the disturbing contemporary drifts to the Right across the political west and the role of anti-racism social media groups inside today’s cultural battlegrounds. While discussing the excessively highlighted issue of infantile sex reassignment surgeries\, the film flags the discrimination and impact of society’s behaviour that leads to the mental health issues created for intersex people and their children. During the process of research and writing the screenplay\, the team was engaged with international intersex experts and organisations. The film’s research was conducted in the University of East Anglia and the film clips/research was presented and discussed at the INIA (Intersex New Interdisciplinary Approaches) Network supported by the European Commission; University of Westminster\, London; Nagoya University\, Japan; Solent University Southampton\, and University of Reading\, UK. Seven English language movies have been made in the US and Australia so far\, with intersex characters. First\, being American\, was Freaks (1932)\, which featured minor intersex character\, Josephine Joseph. Just like Fairbank’s masked hero the film catapulted him from standard film actor to one of Hollywood’s first superstars. Elements of the film and Fairbanks’ portrayal would later inspire Bob Kane’s most famous of heroes\, Batman. \nSet in Spanish California\, Fairbanks portrays Don Diego Vega\, a comically effete young nobleman with a taste for tasselled sombreros and juvenile silk-hanky magic tricks. But when danger calls\, Diego swathes himself in black\, straps on a well-honed sword and storms the countryside as the mysterious Zorro. Garth Jennings | USA| 1hr 50m | U \nWe are very excited that SFW and IntoFilm Festival are coming together again in 2022 to offer school groups the opportunity to enjoy fabulous film\, and we will once again be screening at MAST – Mayflower Studios on Guildhall Square in Southampton. \nThe Into Film Festival is a free\, annual\, nationwide celebration of film & education for 5-19 year olds.  It helps educators bring learning to life for 5-19 year olds across the UK by inspiring young people to watch\, understand and make film in new and creative ways. \nWe are offering 2 films this year\, Clifford the Big Red Dog (2021)\, with an age guide of 7-11 and Sing 2 (2021) with an age guide of 5-11. \nPlease note that booking for this event is through IntoFilm only. \n \nHaving previously saved his local theatre through a hugely popular singing competition\, koala bear and music manager Buster Moon has his sights set on an even bigger musical extravaganza in the bustling Las-Vegas like city of Red Shore. Along with his friends and performers – including the singing pigs Rosita and Gunter\, porcupine rocker Ash and shy Gorilla Tommy – Buster heads to the city to discover that the only way the show will go on is if he can convince reclusive rockstar-lion Clay Calloway to come out of retirement to be part of the show. However\, since Clay’s wife passed away\, he is reluctant to ever go back onto the stage again. Full of recognizable musical numbers and a slapstick sensibility\, Sing 2 also explores the importance of music in our lives as more than just a form of entertainment. \nTaking place from 8-25 November\, the Into Film Festival helps educators bring learning to life for 5-19 year olds across the UK by inspiring young people to watch\, understand and make film in new and creative ways. \nPlaces will be offered for free on a first-come\, first-served basis\, with attendance this year limited to one school group per event to help us to ensure the safety of all attendees and allow us to maximise the impact on the largest possible audience of children and young people across the UK. \nInto Film supports teachers and educators to achieve a wide range of effective learning outcomes in their use of film.
