SUMMARY:SFW22: Intro to Filmmaking Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Intro to Filmmaking Workshop\n12pm – 3pm Saturday 19 November\nCity Eye\n  \nThis 3-hour workshop is perfect for aspiring filmmakers and photographers\, as well as beginners with some experience looking to build their skills in a fun and practical manner. Participants with their own cameras are strongly advised to bring them along for the best experience. \nYou will learn a variety of filmmaker basics\, from framing and composition to white balance and three-point lighting. Crucially\, you will learn the difference between ISO\, aperture and shutter speed so that you can finally get off ‘auto’ mode and plan your shots or react on the fly with confidence. \nWho will run the session?\nSince graduating from Solent University in 2017\, Aaron has enjoyed a variety of freelance projects in the film industry\, in particular the short thriller ‘Alien: Containment\,’ produced in collaboration with 20th Century Fox to celebrate 40 years since the release of Ridley Scott’s ground-breaking film. More recently\, Aaron has overseen production for Collaborative Media\, a London-based film company producing corporate video and documentary programmes broadcast on Sky Channel 182. As City Eye’s newly appointed Production Manager\, he is keen to use his knowledge and experience to push the organisation to even greater heights through its own projects and in its support of established and developing filmmakers. \nThe session will run at City Eye from 12pm – 3pm on Saturday 19 November.  If you are unable to attend these workshops – fear not\, City Eye’s programme of training sessions and workshops will resume in the new year\, so keep an eye out for updates on social media or sign up to its mailing list via the website. \n

SUMMARY:SFW22: Los Fantasmas with Q&A
DESCRIPTION:Los Fantasmas (2020)\nTuesday 15 November 2022 at 7:00pm\nDir. Sebastián Lojo | Guatemala | 1hr 31m |12A | Drama | English subtitles  \nBy day\, Koki is a nice tourist guide in Guatemala City\, but at night he lures men to a hotel – where they are relieved of their property.  \n \nHandsome Koki earns a living in Guatemala City winning people’s confidence\, after which their possessions go missing. By day he is a tourist guide\, but at night he seduces men and takes them to Carlos’ hotel\, where they are robbed. Koki and Carlos are two sides of the same coin; their fates are intertwined through their violent activities. One day\, Koki is targeted by one of the men he stole from\, leading Carlos to replace him with another good-looking young man. The shock of this sudden removal of his means of subsistence causes Koki to realise what his life was like\, in an almost out-of-body experience. \nThe feature debut from Sebastián Lojo and Remi Itani\, Los Fantasmas had its premiere in Rotterdam and has played in festivals around the world\, which is a remarkable achievement for an indie film that came out of a country with little film infrastructure but great stories to tell. The film’s use of location\, situation and storytelling are all the richer for this character study that explores what people do to survive.\n\nProducer Remi Itani will join us for the screening and a Q&A.\n is run by film charity      Charity Number 1089882 \nWe are delighted\, with support of our partners\, to present a number of events for free but if you are able to make a donation when purchasing your ticket or attending an event we will be incredibly grateful – and able to sustain City Eye and Southampton Film Week for years to come!  Thank you.

SUMMARY:SFW22: A Bunch of Amateurs
DESCRIPTION:A Bunch of Amateurs (2022)\nMonday 14 November 2022 at 7:00pm\nDir. Kim Hopkins | UK | 1hr 35m | 12A | Documentary  \nOnly a miracle can save Britain’s oldest amateur film club from its final demise. Sometimes miracles come from unexpected places.  \n \nMembers of Bradford Movie Makers\, the most quintessentially British working-class filmmaking club\, grow old amid flickering memories and the brutal reckoning of their final years. Desperately clinging to their dreams\, and to each other\, fuelled by endless cups of tea\, this quietly hilarious\, profoundly moving portrait of shared artistic folly speaks to the delusional escapist dreamer in us all and to the need to spend time together face to face in an increasingly lonely\, digital age.  \n“A profoundly moving and funny film that acts as an extraordinary document of the power of community and art.” – Guardian  \n“A thoroughly moving and ultimately joyful affair” – Cineuropa  \n\nWatch A Bunch of Amateurs at Solent University on Monday 14 November\, at 7:00pm. \n is run by film charity      Charity Number 1089882 \nWe are delighted\, with support of our partners\, to present a number of events for free but if you are able to make a donation when purchasing your ticket or attending an event we will be incredibly grateful – and able to sustain City Eye and Southampton Film Week for years to come!  Thank you.
