Dir: Agnieszka Holland | Poland | 128mins | 15
In a rural Polish hunting village, a semi-retired teacher, Janina, notices that her beloved dogs have gone missing, and she has a good idea what might have happened to them. So begins Spoor, an off-beat crime thriller in the vein of Fargo which sees Janina take on the local hunters in a quest to find her dogs. Beautifully filmed and thoughtfully adapted from Nobel Prize Winner Olga Tokarszuck’s Drive Your Plow over the Bones of the Dead, Spoor is a witty, moving, and urgent piece of film-making whose unique mix of humour, environmental and feminist themes, and a white-knuckle plot with a twist, marks Agnieszka Holland’s odd-ball murder mystery as one of the most significant environmentally conscious films ever made.
We are incredibly proud to be able to present this very special one off screening of Spoor, which was never released in the UK. With stunning cinematography, and unforgettable performances, it is an unmissable conclusion to the first day of Southampton Film Week[end].
