I love film and without it, my days would be pretty bland. It’s true, I am a bit of a film buff and I’m always exploring new styles and genres and being inspired by great directors. Film, to me, has no boundaries and that’s what makes it so fun and creative. This is why I joined the Southampton Youth Film Festival, because to get youth to open up to all sorts of different film cultures, would be a great opportunity to inspire them so they can appreciate good film rather than just commericial films aimed at teenagers today. Favourite movie genre? – Crime/ Drama

I love film. I find it amazing how you can be crying one minute and laughing the next; it’s such an escape. My favorite aspect of film has to be the sound. To me it can make or break a film, it has such an affect on an audience and really brings the film alive. As a wannabe filmmaker I enjoy watching short films, independent films and films with interesting concepts. Although I do love a decent rom-com as much as the next girl.
Favourite Actor? – So many! Either Dustin Hoffman or Ewan McGregor (For Train Spotting)

My family gets way angry because I take up all the space on the TV recorder box with films all the time. I like ones where the characters say cool stuff, for instance, in Pulp Fiction or Dirty Harry. What I don’t like are films that don’t set out to entertain, but to give some philosophical insight, and end up being boring. If they’re fun, then it’s a different matter. That’s why I wanted to help out with this festival, to help everyone have a really good time. That’s what films are supposed to be about, right?Your favourite film when you were younger? – The jungle book (secretly it’s still my favourite)

I think I could honestly write for hours about what film means to me, and the reasons I love film, but I’ll try to keep it brief and avoid rambling. The sense of escapism in film is a huge factor for me – the fact that, through film, you can travel in space and back in time, and adventure through completely fictitious places with characters you grow to love, or hate, is incredible. Also, I’m a big fan of film music and the movement and angles of shots. I love the films I love because of these elements. Lastly, the sense of awe you get from a truly amazing plot twist, or just an amazing story in film is a feeling I love. I wanted to be a part of the Youth Film Festival because I feel that everyone should be enjoying the music and art of excellent films, not just the mainstream blockbusters shown everywhere and because I knew that it would be an event I’d love to go to, let alone help organise.
Favourite film? – I could watch Atonement again and again for the rest of my life, though The Prestige and V For Vendetta are up there as well.

For me, film has always been a passion. I enjoy both the creative side, and the analytical side of film; from understanding what role film plays in culture and its function, to how it communicates a vision through technique and how ‘the magic’ is worked. The reason why I wanted to be part of Southampton Youth Film Festival is because I wanted to share my passion with others, and for them to realise their love for film. Film isn’t just something you watch; it is so much more. This is something that I hope others will come to understand.
Favourite director? – J.J Abrams

Robert
Is Robert an international man of mystery, hence no picture yet! However, he writes:Film? Well where I begin started making films when I was about 10-11 and from that moment I realised how much I enjoyed it. Along with a few of my friends I create videos on a weekly basis, but enough of that I could ramble on forever about me. Anyway film has always meant so much to me from watching films to creating and editing my own, I just love the way you can connect with the actors to know how they feel almost as if they were in the same room as you The reason I wanted to become a committee member for Southampton youth film festival is because I want to learn more about film and use my own skills to help others to bring you an awesome film festival!!!
Sweet or salted popcorn? Defiantly sweet.
