Dir: John Chester | USA | 91mins | Cert: PG
The Biggest Little Farm follows the Chesters as they swap the big city for a (not so) little farm. Envisioned as a self-contained eco-system, Apricot Lane Farms is the Chester family’s attempt to show how easily we could do things differently. Besides a moral attitude to livestock, and an innovative approach to growing crops and maintaining soil quality, it is the heart warming quality of The Biggest Little Farm that makes it such a significant documentary. Cows, Pigs, Dogs, and even crops are all treated by the farmers and the filmmakers with the utmost respect. Whilst The Biggest Little Farm never claims farming life as easy, the palpable joy of reconnecting with Nature and providing a sustainable alternative to industrialised farming is explored through the Chesters – we learn along with them that changing our attitudes to our environment, changes us for the better, too.
A moving, heart-warming documentary which leaves everyone who sees it with the desire to get out into the garden, and get growing!
