Living with his uncle in the cloistered walls of the Abby of Kells, young Brendan becomes obsessed with the stories he hears of a yet to be completed book which can turn darkness into light. When Brother Aiden arrives with the incomplete Book of Kells, he entrusts its completion to Brendan, who journeys off into the Irish wilderness, through history, mythology, and most importantly, nature, to find what he needs.
