There’s still 3 days left of events and screenings to go for Southampton Film Week 2023!
Kicking things off earlier today at 2.30pm at City Eye was a test screening for the newly completed feature thriller Gone to Ground by Grindstone Films and directed by Phil Peel. Followed by a Q&A with the crew.
Later tonight we have the 2nd programme of the week for Short Story Cinema. A celebration of the short film format and what can visually & creatively be achieved in just a few minutes of storytelling. Short Story Cinema – Programme 2 includes several short fictions, documentaries and artist films created by filmmakers from the region as well as a couple SFW: Shorts 2023 winning films.
Join us at God’s House Tower for 7pm – tickets still available.
Also tonight is the SOLD OUT regional premiere of On Resistance Street. Southampton Film Week is delighted to present this film screening in partnership with Solent University, Southampton. A Q&A with Director, Richard David and Crew will follow the screening.
Events continue tomorrow with What is Film? As part of Hands on Humanities Day. Come along to the department of film at University of Southampton to explore the real materials that started our cinematic journey. We’re exploring some of the key questions around the moving image. What it means to us – now, in the past and as we look to the future. With Film-On-Film Screenings throughout the day. Drop-In sessions from 10.30am – 4.30pm at Avenue Campus.
Tomorrow evening at Solent University, Southampton – screening the same weekend as this film hits cinema’s for it’s UK theatrical release – Is There Anybody Out There? Deeply personal, disarmingly honest, revelatory and beautiful documentary! Debut feature filmmaker Ella Glendining goes on a journey to find someone else with a body like hers, exploring what it takes to love and esteem yourself as a disabled person in an ableist society. 7pm – tickets available.
Finally on Sunday evening join us for this historic Southampton Film Week tradition, drawing the festival to a close with a relaxed (but highly competitive!) The Film Week Quiz! 7pm at Mettricks Guildhall. £2 per person, teams up to 6. Advanced booking available or cash on the day (please bring exact amount)
